6 November 2nd - December 22nd 2023 Creative people are willing to take the risks associated with trying new ideas. For them, all ideas represent something with potential. Even if they fail, they serve as a lesson on how to do better in the future. Creativity is a valuable skill for any entrepreneur, because it can be a useful tool for developing new ideas, increasing efficiency and finding solutions to complex problems. There are several types of creativity, according to various psychologists and specialists in the field. One of the classifications, according to The Rise of the Creative Class, New York, Basic Books, 2002, is: technological creativity (invention), economic creativity (entrepreneurship), artistic/cultural creativity. A successful entrepreneur must master them all in order to achieve their goals. CREATIVITY is a skill that can be learned and developed over time. Recover your creativity! During our development, from child to adult, perhaps because of socialization and formal education, many of us begin to stifle our creative impulses. We learn to be more cautious, more analytical or afraid of failure. The world seems to split into “creatives” and “non-creatives” and too many people resign themselves consciously or unconsciously to the latter category. And yet, we know that creativity is essential for success in any discipline or industry. And especially in entrepreneurship. No one can deny that creative thinking has enabled the growth and continued success of countless companies. So, any entrepreneur must assume their natural ability to come up with new ideas and the courage to try them. That’s why they have to give up several fears: fear of the unknown, fear of being judged, fear of taking the first step, fear of losing control. We know that it is possible for people to overcome even their deepest fears. Creativity is something you practice, not just a talent you were born with. Creative thinking in business starts with having empathy for your customers (whether they are internal or external). You have to confront unexpected findings, uncertainty and irrational people who say things you don’t want to hear. But here you find creative perspectives and discoveries. Venturing into the search for learning, even without a hypothesis, can open you up to new information and help you discover needs you didn’t expect. Otherwise, you risk simply reconfirming the ideas you already had or waiting for others - your customers or even your competitors - to tell you what to do. Creativity opens your mind. I repeat, creativity is something you practice, not just a talent you were born with. If an entrepreneur does not practice their creativity, they may get stuck in “safe” solutions or suggestions. They may postpone some decisions, allowing others to take risks and win. You can’t be creative if you constantly censor yourself. If you can listen to your own intuition and embrace more of your ideas (good and bad), you are already on the right track to overcome your fears and practice your creativity. Creative efforts are harder at the beginning. To overcome this inertia, good ideas are not enough. You have to stop planning and start - and the best way to do that is to not focus on the whole task, but to find a small part that you can tackle right away. When you abandon the status quo and work collaboratively with other people, you somehow “sacrifice” control over your team and your business. But the creative gains can offset this and help your business. Look for opportunities to give up control and use different perspectives. Creative people are more likely to use downtime fruitfully, letting one idea lead to another. Creativity allows us to see and solve problems more openly and with innovation. One of the most important ways to trigger creativity is to cultivate your internal drive to come up with new or innovative ideas. Creativity is not a mysterious trait or passed on through genetics. Creativity is a process that can be learned, perfected and mastered. What do you think about creativity and success in entrepreneurship?
